Milly's Nursery School

We are a small, family orientated nursery school providing high quality care and education in a warm, homely environment. We care for 2 to 4 year olds following the Early Years Foundation Stage, from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, for 50 weeks a year. Choose what suits you best, term time or year round hours, full time or part time hours.  Take only the free entitlement without any other charges as we can spread your free hours over 38 or 50 weeks.

We believe every child deserves the best start in life and they learn best through their own play and exploration. We provide a warm, secure, home-like environment both indoors where your child will flourish and grow.

Ofsted inspection, 6th June 2024:

Good overall,

Outstanding for Behaviour and Attitudes

"The manager and staff plan a curriculum that has an extremely strong focus on children's developing social and emotional skills. This runs through the nursery practice with seamless fluency. Staff swiftly offer help and support to help children overcome challenges. This has a significant impact on children's emotional wellbeing and gives them the confidence they need to achieve their goals.

For example, children squeal with delight when they discover how to make water flow through guttering. They experiment as they tip and pour and learn new words in context, such as 'faster' and 'slower.' Staff consistently provide meaningful praise, which builds children's self-esteem and reinforces positive behaviour. Staff provide a highly inclusive setting. They are calm and patient, and consistently demonstrate kindness to all children. Children show high levels of energy and excitement as they enter the nursery. They welcome their friends and staff with a huge smile and demonstrate an impressive ability to collaborate with others. For example, they problem-solve and work side by side to gather an array of natural resources to build an obstacle course. Children show exceptionally high levels of respect to their friends They consistently ensure their non-verbal peers can share their ideas and fully participate in activities. Children's behaviour is excellent. They show high levels of engagement and consistently show an ability to sustain their concentration as they engage in their play".

The garden at Milly’s provides a major role in our activities, and the children never need to be asked twice about playing outside. As the Great British weather can sometimes do its worst to try to stop our fun, we have invested in some all-weather clothing and spare wellingtons for the children, as well as a variety of hats of all shapes and sizes.

However, please ensure that your child is dressed and prepared for the weather, we do go outside every day and they will need suitable shoes, coats, hats etc. whether the weather be hot. cold or rainy.

We believe that quality early years education is vital to a child’s development and recent research shows that the children who have the greatest success with their GCSE results had attended a pre-school setting. We, therefore, cannot stress the importance of taking full advantage of the free provision.  Milly’s does not have a catchment area and we welcome children from all around Basingstoke and the surrounding area. We have a large car park, are on the bus routes and if you can walk or cycle we are easy to get to on wide well-lit paths.  So, don’t panic about early years provision, Milly’s will be happy to offer help and advice. Why not sort out your requirements and relax.

Child-centred

We believe that every child is unique, they develop physically, socially and emotionally if they feel happy and secure.

We offer  a wealth of opportunities for your child to explore, discover and experiment in a warm, caring environment.

Children learn at their own pace, through their own interests and we personalise the curriculum to meet their individual needs.

Family Focused

Today's parents need childcare to fit around their working schedule and so we offer up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 50 weeks a year.

Effectively, we are a pre-school that opens all year apart from the Christmas holiday. Choose between a term-time or full year contract.

We are smaller and more personal as there are places for no more than 20 children at one time.

We have secure online learning journals you can access at any time.

Everyone Welcome

We believe that every child deserves the best start, no matter their background or ability.

We have experience and expertise in supporting families and children with SEND, especially with extra needs due to their health and delayed development.

We have places for 2 year old funded children and 30 hours free childcare for eligible families.
